Why use our service

When booking a tourist taxi through an online platform, reliability often becomes the biggest concern. Will the promised vehicle arrive on time? This uncertainty arises because the tourist transport sector in Sikkim remains largely unorganized. While tech companies in metro cities can build apps and websites, delivering consistent service on the ground in a place like Sikkim presents a different set of challenges.

Shrey Cars, however, stands apart. We aren’t a tech company, nor are we new to the business. Since 2002, we’ve been serving our guests with our fleet of vehicles. We don’t rely on complex software or payment gateways. Instead, we keep things simple: you just pick up the phone and speak to us directly. We only confirm bookings when we have a vehicle available; if all our vehicles are engaged, we won’t take on new reservations. Our approach is conservative and old-fashioned, but it comes with the promise of reliable service.

Note:-

1. According to local administrative rules, Sumo or Similar vehicles will not be allowed to enter the main town of Gangtok. Our service will be limited to dropping the tourists to the local stand. Tourist will have to hire a local taxi to reach their respective hotels.
2. During peak seasons such as Christmas, Diwali etc. there may be a surcharge on the above tariff which will be communicated to you by our executive.
3. The vehicle capacity is fixed, if your group consist of more people, please hire multiple vehicles from us. On the spot, we may not be able to arrange for extra vehicles.
4. Please carry a limited pieces of luggage, that can be carried in the vehicle rooftop carrier, in case the quantity of luggage is very high, you may have to hire an additional vehicle for the same at extra cost.
5. Our vehicle will be reporting for service no earlier than 6 AM in the morning. In case of early arrival at NJP / Bagdogra please avail the restroom services available there.
6. In case of late arrival, please note that we do not recommend driving in the hills late in the night. If you are arriving in the evening, we will highly recommend staying in Siliguri for the night and starting the journey to Gangtok the next morning. Our vehicle will not start for Gangtok after 6 PM during summer months and after 5 PM during the winter, irrespective of flight/train delay.

The cheapest way to travel to Gangtok

The most economical way to travel to Gangtok is by bus. Both private and government-operated buses run on this route, with the largest fleet managed by Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT). These buses depart from the SNT bus stand on Hill Cart Road in Siliguri. While buses are an affordable option, they are not the most comfortable mode of travel in the hills. Navigating narrow and winding mountain roads, these buses often take longer, sometimes exceeding 6 hours to reach Gangtok from Siliguri, depending on traffic and road conditions. Travellers arriving at Bagdogra Airport or NJP will need to first reach the bus stand, which is approximately 6 km from NJP and 12 km from Bagdogra Airport.

The next budget-friendly option is to travel by shared taxi. These taxis are more readily available in the mornings, with their numbers gradually decreasing as the day progresses. Shared taxis offer a cost-effective choice, especially for small groups of two or three travellers.

Journey description from NJP / Bagdogra to Gangtok.

Both NJP (New Jalpaiguri) and Bagdogra are key entry points to the plains of Bengal, with NJP being the major railway station and Bagdogra the nearest airport. Once you board your vehicle and set off for Gangtok, you’ll first pass through Siliguri, the main city in the region. Siliguri's landscape is rather plain and unremarkable, but as soon as you cross its boundaries, you will enter the lush green Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Driving through its dense forests, you’ll reach Sevok, where the plains gradually transition into the hills. Sevok is also where you’ll encounter the mighty Teesta River, the lifeline of the Darjeeling and Sikkim region. From this point, the Teesta will be your companion along the route until you reach Singtam, just a short distance from Gangtok.

The total distance from Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok is around 130 km, while from NJP, it's about 125 km. The journey can take between 3.5 to 5 hours depending on road conditions and traffic. During peak travel seasons, however, the travel time may extend to 6 hours or more due to increased traffic.
